Candid Conversations // 2

There has been a trend going around the blog world, one that I greatly appreciate. Many bloggers have been divulging their own struggles with busyness, looong hours, and the need to make it all work. I have found this to be a particularly refreshing conversation and one that most of us can probably relate to - I know I sure can! This summer I have been juggling a few different gigs (9-5 job, blog, studio work, internship) and keeping those balls in the air all of the time can be tricky business. I've taken all of the necessary steps to keep my ducks in a row - todo list apps, well-organized calendars, ect - but every once and a while something has to give. Depending on my priorities that day or week, certain things get pushed to the top of the list while others lose rank. It can be so easy to beat yourself up when this happens, but I'm starting to realize that it may just be a fact of life. There are only so many hours in the day, after all.

It can be hard when you are striving to do good work and succeed at what you are doing, but I think it is vital to cut yourself some lack. I really struggle with being a total perfectionist, and at times will re-do something a crazy number of times until I'm happy with it. Especially when it comes to design work! This is good on one hand because the finished product is exactly how I want it, but it can be a draining process! At some point I think we have to admit (to ourselves) that enough is enough, and accept our careers, homes, love lives and friendships as perfectly imperfect things. I'm convinced that when we do this, we are able to see more of the positives than we do when we only focus on what else needs to be done, or how much better it could have been. Because really, if you put your heart into everything that you do, and you do things that you love with passion, then you could not possibly have a better finished product, could you? Nope!

Question for you!

What do you make of the recent surge of honesty in the blog world? Do you think that we are getting to a point where we all want a bit more than pretty things? Perhaps we want to know something deeper about the person whose blog we visit every day?

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this!

  1. i think what you're seeing is just a domino effect - one blogger opens up and it sort of encourages others to do the same.  plus, people like to know that they're not alone.  :)  great post!  i hope  my questions aren't keeping you from getting the important things done.  ;)

  2. i appreciate that bloggers are opening up a bit about struggles, i've done it a bit on my blog as well. i think it gives a more well rounded impression and helps you truly realize that everyone has struggles, and maybe they are similar to your own.

  3. I definitely comment more on blogs that I can relate too. Even if it's a food blog, if the recipe seems possible in my tiny little nyc kitchen then I'm a fan. I think the more relatable, no matter what the topic, the more special the post is. Even if it's about pretty things!
