Drumroll please..

I'm super excited to announce the project that I have been working on day in and day out for the last couple of weeks! While I love the design of the blog right now, I have been itching to test out my design chops, so I thought I would give a re-design a shot! The last few weeks have been filled with changes (new job, new apartment) and so I thought it a proper time to also roll out a new look for Piece of Cake. Peace Mind.

I can't wait to hear what you think about the new look when it gets published, so stay tuned!!!

My closet: the easiest outfit you'll wear all week

I wore this outfit a while back for a day spent with my parents and sister. It was one of those spectacularly sunny days and so a nice, breezy skirt from Forever 21 was a perfect companion. Paired with a thin Gap shirt and my favorite vintage belt, this outfit made me a very happy camper. Not to mention, there was gelato included on this adventure, so naturally I remember this outfit fondly.

How was your weekend? Did you get up to anything exciting?

My closet: Apparently these are my favorite colors

If I attempted to give you a list of links to past outfits I've worn which include this color combination, then you and I would be here all day. Seriously, I believe that classic stripes with a bright red anything is just the best. No matter what my day is like, if I throw something like this on, I am good to go. Also, I picked this bag up at Topshop a week or so ago and I have been LOVING it. It fits everything (including books, and water) but it doesn't look like I'm schlepping my life around if I want to stop into a pretty shop, or grab a steamed apple juice latte at Starbucks.

What's new with you? I have a really exciting project that I'm finishing up right now and I can't wait to share it with you!!

Bits & bites: nautical edition

Last weekend I went for a little trip to visit my mom. We visited this little strip of shops and restaurants along the marina and there were so many beautiful little things to admire. Here are some photos of my favorite sights that weekend.

1. A lighthouse adorning the top of a restaurant that really sets the nautical vibe for the area.
2. Sweet handmade flags hanging outside of a pretty little shop.
3. The fish & chips place that we ate at had the best table clothes - anchors galore! Plus, they had amazing bright orange chairs that I wished I could smuggle out.
4. Gorgeous vintage bike that was used as decoration outside of a coffee shop. I'm currently on the hunt for a bike and this fueled my obsession.
5. Flags were so popular there! Much to my happiness, these were hanging all the way along the street beside the shops.

What have you been up to lately? Any fun stories to share?

Happy Monday!

My closet: I cut my hair!

Get the look: dress (Forever 21)/ shoes (Aldo)/ belt (vintage)/necklace (DIY)

Last week I got it in my head that I needed to chop my locks off. I started pinning, and was quickly ready to take the leap. I have had my hair very long for a very long time (take a look over at the top right there), so I knew that it would be a major change. Turns out, it didn't even phase me! I think I was really ready to try something new. With my new job and apartment, I was excited to have  a new 'do to match. I'm super happy with the results and I have enjoyed the summery feeling that has came along with it.

In other news, I am working on a secret project that I can't wait to reveal, and it's really testing my ability to keep my mouth shut! But I think you will enjoy it when I'm finished :)

Happy Tuesday my dears.

Stripes are good for the nerves, you know.

Shop: blazer (Urban Outfitters)/ flats (Aldo)/ belt (Joe Fresh)/ dress (see below)

Happy Monday my lovelies! How was your weekend? Did you do anything special for Mama's day? Last week I started working at my new job and on Sunday night (before my first day) I was full of nerves and worried about how I would do in the new position. I also had to pick out an outfit that would be appropriate for the office but still make me feel like me. It wasn't too hard to decide on my favorite striped dress, and it really did boost my first day confidence. Plus, I loved having the pop of yellow with the classic navy/white stripe. I will definitely be pulling this out of my closet for work again very soon!

In other news, I have some exciting things to share soon, as well as I project I'm working on that I hope you will really enjoy :)

Enjoy the beginning of your week!!

PS. I bought this dress from a little boutique in my hometown this year, but here is something equally lovely.

My closet: stripes are a girl's best friend

I really need to develop a better bedtime schedule, since it is after midnight and I have to be at work at 9am. But I do have one thing to say about this outfit before I sign off for the evening - stripes, denim and neutral wedges really do make for an easy and cheery look for a laid-back day of window shopping.

I hope you all have been enjoying your week! Do you have any exciting news to share? I would certainly love to hear it!!

What to give your mama!

With mother's day coming up this weekend, I have been racking my brain about what to give my own sweet mom. I won't reveal my selections here, since she reads this here blog (hi mom!) but I would love to share some of my favorite items that I think any of our moms would look gorgeous in.

Easy and fun, these sweaters make jeans and sandals look so chic. How cute would she look browsing the farmer's market on Sunday morning wearing this?

You spent hours perusing her jewelry drawer when you were a little girl, and her taste has always been exquisite. Today is no different and you know that these would be a lovely addition to her collection.

These flats are such an amazing color and she would look so ladylike wearing them with a summery dress for all of her adventures.

While she may have carried all of your baby/toddler/childhood essentials at one point, the contents of her purse are extremely chic these days. Her pretty lipsticks, wallet and sunglasses would be very happy living in this striped tote.

Do you have a gift for your mom yet? Or do you prefer to do fun things together rather than give gifts?

My closet: wardrobe angst

Lately I have been in one of those moods where I simply cannot decide what to wear.  I stare at my closet for way too long, get myself all frustrated, and then finally throw something on. I think it may be the changing seasons, or perhaps I just need to calm the heck down, but either way, I think some wardrobe inspiration is in order. Mind you, my apartment has been without internet for the last week, so I have been severely lacking in the inspiration department. Thankfully though, the installation guy is coming tomorrow! It will be so much easier to get work done when I don't have to haul myself down to Starbucks every time I need the web.

In other news, I'm all settled into my new home, and I'm loving it! I can't wait to share some photos of it :) Also, I start my new job today! Things all seem to be moving quite quickly, but thankfully they're all exciting changes so I'm very grateful.

Wish me luck today! I'm a little nervous, so I'm wearing my favorite striped dress to boost the first-day confidence :)

Happy Monday loves!

My closet: boardwalk empire

On the weekend I took a walk with my sister and parents along the boardwalk where I'm from. The walk winds all along the inner harbor and was so incredibly beautiful when I was there. My stripes, denim, and easy wedges felt perfect for a day at the beach. The rest of the weekend was just as easy going and I was thrilled to have some down-time before coming back to the city, setting up my new home, and starting my new job. I can't wait to share pictures of my new place! It is coming together slowly but surely, and there are just a few more things that I need to pick up on my next trip to Ikea. It has been so much fun just puttering around my new little home, and getting everything organized.

How has your week been going? Any fun stories to share?
